Locking Yourself Out Of the House – What To Do Next
We’ve all been there. That sinking feeling you get when you close a door behind you, or it blows shut unexpectedly and it locks….and in that instance you realise you left your keys inside.
Depending on your situation, if you want to try and find a way to gain access to your property, there’s a few things to try.
First thing to do is not panic.
Secondly, assess the situation. Is anyone in danger? If small children are locked inside or you are vulnerable, disregard the following and contact your local emergency services.
If there is nobody in danger, the next thing to consider is if anyone else has a key to your property? A partner or housemate? Landlord or real estate agent? Give them a call and see if they can let you in or borrow a spare key to retrieve your own keys.
The next few suggestions, will unfortunately prove if you can get access to your house this way, a thief can too. Not great for security, but it might be end of your troubles.
Did you leave a window unlocked? Can you remove the door knob? This will only work if there isn’t a deadbolt on the door.
